Roles and Role Models: Torn Paper Portraits
Statement of Inquiry:
Representation of roles and roles models to an audience can positively influence culture.
Key Concept: Culture
Related Concepts: audience and representation
Global Context: identities and relationships: roles and role models
Inquiry Questions:
Factual:
What are the traits of a role model?
• Students will explore the concept of a role model and the traits that an individual must have in order to become a role model?
Conceptual:
How can representation of role models positively influence an audience?
• Students will discuss how artists can positvely impact an audience through the representation of role models.
Debatable:
Can the perspective of an individual or a culture be right or wrong?
• Students will discuss how culture can influence our perspective on issues...both positive and negative, and the effects of choosing a role model that has a different perspective than those around us.
In this unit, we will start by selecting and researching an individual whom has contributed, changed the world or became recognized for acts of kindness. Once this person is identified, you will create a tributary portrait of the individual and present it (along with a short slideshow, video, poem or short story, defending why you made this choice) to the class...think about IB Learner Profile Traits when making and describing this person.
