Conceptual: How might one use form to present perspctive of an individual or a group of people?
Debatable: Is it possible. through art and design, to inspire others to imagine a hopeful future?
Other questions to consider...
- Factual: Who is Keith Haring?
What is graffiti?
Keith Haring started making art seriousl in the 1980's...What were some of the issues of that time period?
What do you think were some of the inspirations or other drivers of forms of art, like music and fashion?
What were some of the important events that occurred in this era?
What were some of the messages in Keith Haring’s work? Who was the audience?
Why are art and design good mediums to use, in order to communicate one's perspective? - Conceptual: Can you make any connections between Keith Haring’s art and the context in which it was created?
How can street art or other types of art/design influence people? - Debatable: Was his approach to art (and the concept of graffiti) a good thing for society?
Process (Big Picture):
- We will start out with a slide presentation to introduce you to artists whom have created works of art with a message.
- Students will also have access to a list of artists to look at for inspiration....from street artists (murals and graffiti) to illustrated works of art (books/posters) to fine art (in museums) and will choose one artist to become an expert about.
- Student will research and document the research in your PJ (which you will share in your final presentation/critique.).
- Student will begin with a 'mind map' in order to find a subject that they are passionate about. Through this process, students will choose a social, political or environmental issue and begin researching the issue (example: global warming, world hunger, women's rights)...something you are interested in or passionate about.
- Student will create a series of thumbnail/planning sketches with options for their final design.
- Students will give and receive feedback
Goal- is to create a publicly displayed work of art with a message that advocates for a chosen social, political or environmental issue in today's society, while inspiring others to imagine a hopeful future.
