Just a few images of our classroom after the earthquake struck...a little shaken up, but it could have been much worse. We're back up and running. A great reminder of how precious life is and how important it is for us to stick together as family and a community! Hope everyone is on the mend, and that we can get back to our daily routines very soon:)

This week's first art challenge/exercise will be "Drawing Upside Down"! Sound crazy? Well, it's a great exercise to get you to start making connections in drawing and to look at the world a little differently. Find out more in class on Thursday or Friday...or if the suspense is killing you, see below:)
We're spending some time this week getting to know the art studio and each other, reviewing classroom rules and procedures and getting into the groove of art . We're talking about ORGANIZATION and RESPECTFUL behavior... a LOT, as it will be essential in all students having the opportunity for a fun, safe and exciting year in art. We are also discussing the IB Learner Profile traits with a little collaborative discussion and matching game (see image below).
Along with their BINDER REMINDER CONTRACTS, students were also given an ART ROOM CONTRACT...both of these items need to be returned by Friday, August 22. (Binder reminder contracts get turned in to first period teachers, while art contracts get turned into Ms. Clark during your art class). The future is looking bright...and full of color in the art room this year:) We're off to a great start! Welcome to the wonderful world of ART! We just wrapped up our first week of school. We spent time getting acquainted with each other, our classroom studio and our classroom rules and procedures. Students were given a little homework exericse...3 pre-instruction drawings (a hand, self-portrait, and the corner of a room). Students can use any medium they choose and are encouraged to be as creative as possible. This exercise will help me see where each student is in their skill level, creativity and critical thinking skills. The assignment is due Wednesday, August 20th.
We will spend more time next week getting to know each other better, and start off with an overview of the Elements and Principles of Art, at which point we'll be ready to move on to each grade levels separate units of study. Please don't hesitate to contact me via email if you have any questions (see contact information page). Looking forward to a fun filled year full of creativity, critical thinking and collaboration! |
