Another busy week has passed...We've continued to work on value and color, all classes making progress! Next week we'll start our preparation for Student Led Conferences. Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend...see you next week :)
I was asked recently what I want my students to get out of my art classes. I want them to gain an appreciation of the arts and to work on skill building. Growth is an important part of the art process. However, there is much more that the ARTS teach, that is beyond the scope of skills. The ARTS can help build confidence. They can encourage us to become stronger critical thinkers and more innovative. They can help us see beauty in the world, where we would least likely expect to find it.
Last night's "Back to School Night" was a success! Thanks to all the parents (and students) who took time out of their busy schedules to see what's happening at Harvest Middle School. It was great meeting parents and seeing students from the past. Obviously, I wasn't able to talk individually with everyone, but I really want to encourage parents to email me with concerns, comments or questions. Communication is critical in ensuring the success of all students. I had several parents asking about helping in the classroom or about supplies needed. Donations of supplies needed can be found on the 'donations" tab under General Course Outlines. I will post information regarding sketchbooks as soon as they arrive...
Keep checking back on our blog page for updates on projects and for art-related events. Thanks for your support and looking forward to a successful, fun and exciting school year! 6th Grade Students... We will continue working on your personal wheel design. Please come to class with any drawings, photos or ideas that you may have been thinking about over the weekend. Things to remember...
7th Grade Students... Please make sure to bring an interesting tool or kitchen gadget (if you do not want to use one of the gadgets provided for you) and be prepared to work on your value drawing of the tool. Meanwhile, you need to be thinking about your final assignment of creating a composition incorporating the chosen object that will be placed in a setting of another space and time. I will be listing a few books and videos (on the 7th grade page for this assignment) that may help inspire a setting for your story. Start thinking about what this object could be used for in another space and time... 8th Grade Students...
Now that we have completed our grids, we will continue on our value journey, by transferring the images of our photos to our larger work surface (blocking out major shapes in pencil) and then beginning the process of adding the torn paper in corresponding values to create a larger scale self portrait. Remember to be patient with yourself...this is a new concept for many. http://video.vanityfair.com/watch/chuck-close-hollywood-portfolio |
