This month's IB Learner Profile Trait is CARING!
I want everyone to focus on exercising a caring attitude, for each other and our classroom...please make sure to take care of our precious supplies/materials and tools, and keep your table areas organized. It will be appreciated by all!!! We are also having a contest in I-6 :) I'd like to encourage students to bring in articles or images from magazine (or online) that exhibit an IB Learner Profile Trait. We will be adding them to our IB wall in our classroom. Students will recieve Hawk Eyes for their contributions AND the class with the most contributions will win a special prize!!! Also, cold and flu season is still here, so remember to be sanitary by washing hands frequently and covering your mouth when coughing. Any donations of tissue and/or hand sanitzer or sanitizing wipes would be greatly appreciated and will be rewarded with Hawk Eyes. Thank you for CARING for your self and your classmates :) DEADLINE is Friday, FEBRUARY 20 Artist Research Questions:
Attention 7th and 8th grade students!!!
Check out this post from SchoolArtsRoom...maybe some of these figurative, clay sculptures could inspire a 'soft figurative sculpture doll'. They have some interesting, culturally inspired patterns and designs... #ibmyp #culture #softfigurativesculpture #dolls #design #globalcontext http://www.schoolartsroom.com/2015/01/the-first-storyteller.html We are currently in the beginning stages of new projects in all grade levels...there is much excitement and anticipation in the air! I can't wait to see what these creative geniuses come up with :)
6th grade is studying Keith Haring, while looking at 'Art with a Message'...with the focus of creating works of art that make a statement about a social, political or environmental issue. In addition to learning a little about Keith Haring, students will be choosing an additional artist to research (with a partner), whose work is message based (text, visual images or both). 7th and 8th grade are working on 'Soft Figurative Sculpture...the Art of Dolls'. Students are researching a culture and using that inspiration to create a unique art doll that will be presented to the class, along with an artist statement. Some materials will need to be sourced outside of the classroom. Donations of sewing materials (thread, sewing needles, buttons, ribbon, fabric, pins, zippers, cotton stuffing, fabric glue, etc.) would be greatly appreciated. Recycled clothing with interesting patterns and textures, old jewelry, beads, wire, old stuffed animals and dolls can also be used to reconstruct pieces for the project. Donations: Along with the items listed above, there are a few items we're looking for, for future projects, as well as some maintenance items to help keep us organized, tidy and well. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated! :) maps globes wire cutters/pliers/hammers (and any other tools) wire (for sculpture) felt masking tape hardcover books Irons and hair dryers (working condition only) aluminum foil (heavy duty) glue sticks fishing tackle and tool boxes safety goggles or glasses tissue sanitizing wipes hand sanitizer ziplock bags (all sizes) Please contact me if you have questions regarding other donations...Thanks! [email protected] We're off to a great start! Students are in the process of presenting artwork they started before winter break. For the last week, I've been enjoying observing students sharing their knowledge acquired through research, as well as creative and high quality artwork. I wanted to share just a few photos and thank all my incredible students for their dedication and hard work over the past few months. Looking forward to starting new projects in all classes next week... Click on the link below to watch the full film, "Grave of the Fireflies"...FREE and online.
